Tuesday, May 14 - The latest in the Westwood Living Party Series takes us to the beautiful new Community Circle at the Andrew Cucchiara Learning Center on the grounds of Hale Education, donated by Ian Brown Land Design.
The Amphitheater, located at the Andrew Cucchiara Learning Center, features granite stone seats primarily facing west, so visitors can enjoy the sunset. As always, we will feature fantastic food and drinks as we provide this great opportunity to socialize with your neighbors, and also the sponsors who make Westwood Living possible, plus many of the people you've seen featured in the magazine.
The Westwood Living Sunset Party will run from 6-9-pm
Ian Brown Land Design recently completed construction of a brand new Community Circle at the Andrew Cucchiara Learning Center at Hale Education. This outdoor space faces west for the best view of a Westwood sunset. Read the full story below behind the creation of the newest addition to the grounds at Hale.
Aside the Andrew Cucchiara Learning Center on the grounds of Hale Education, Ian Brown's team from Ian Brown Land Design began the work in mid-October to beautify and modernize the gathering space frequently referred to as "The Orchard Fire Circle." With great care, vision and attention to detail, the project will enhance an area of Hale, while capitalizing on the experience and knowledge of Brown and his staff.
"We did a test hole here and discovered that this location is perfect for what we're aiming to do," said Brown. "This all started with a conversation I had with Eric Arnold, the executive director here at Hale, and one of our board members, Jack Sharry. We kicked the ball around, rendered a few sketches together and now we have this 50x50 community circle, mixed with granite that we've sourced from areas in Boston - old bridges and trestles that used to hold bridges together. We're repurposing them here as second-generation granite for what's going to be an event space at Hale."
The digital renderings, shared in a video that's been screen-captured on this page, detail a level of precision and artistry unique to Brown, and unique to Hale.
"It's going to look great, and this will be something that won't morph or change in time. The space will be here for generations. It's all granite and solid stone," said Brown. "Hale's built on the ton of towns that support it, and the people in the local community. Now, when they have events, or finance meetings, or board meetings, it's all inside. Hale's all about being OUTSIDE, so you have these beautiful structures for inclement weather, but many people agreed it would be nice to have ample space so you can have as many meetings as you want outside, or events or entertaining spaces. We've made the space a little bit larger than we originally anticipated so it can accommodate all of those things."
“We’re really grateful for all Ian has done for Hale,” said Eric Arnold. “He’s been a lifelong member of our community, as a program participant, staff member, and valued volunteer. We rely on exactly this kind of support to upgrade and maintain our spaces so we can provide opportunities for people to learn, celebrate, and spend time together outdoors.”
The semi-circular amphitheater's granite stone seats will primarily face west, so visitors can enjoy the sunset during the peak spring and summer months. The flora and fauna integrated into the surrounding space will connect the community circle with Hale's natural roots
"This building and the field we're in are sometimes used for weddings," said Brown. "This community circle will be an additional space that can complement an already beautiful part of Hale."
Brown's dedication to Hale comes from a passion and commitment to preserve and continue to beautify a space that's meant a great to him for many decades.
"Being a member of Hale since I was 11-years-old and being born and raised in Westwood, I have connections, so we're bringing all of those people who we know - a bunch of vendors and friends donating time and material to make this happen."
